New South Wales continued their dominance of the Esther Deason Shield defeating Queensland in the 2011 Grand Final Game.
Claiming their fourth straight title and eighth title in nine years, New South Wales controlled from the outset. New South Wales started their attack in the second innings with a strong batting performance to load bases. From there they were able to convert three runs to take the early lead.
Queensland had a big chance to reduce the gap at the top of the third with bases loaded themselves, however was unable to capitalise ending the innings without scoring a run.
New South Wales extended their lead in the bottom of the fifth after Nicola Maitland doubled to right field with Mikaela Mahony sliding into home to record her team’s fourth run.
In the very next innings Queensland managed to score their first run thanks to Eva Carless but could not manage any further runs as they still trailed by three late in game.
The score remained unchanged over the final innings with Mikaela Mahony sealed the Championship catching a fly ball at second base.
Capping off a great week, New South Wales went through the Championship dropping only two games and was definitely a deserving winner of the 2011 Shield.
With three individual awards up for grabs New South Wales took a clean sweep. Congratulations to the award winners:
Rachel Lack – Best Batter
Julia McCann – Best Pitcher
Jordyn Christensen – Most Valuable Player
